Metering and Conveying of High-Viscosity Materials

The working principle of gear pumps involves a pair of meshing gears and the pump body forming enclosed gear spaces, transferring material from the pump inlet to the outlet. At the outlet, the meshing of the gears reduces the enclosed space, thereby extruding the material out of the pump. Thus, gear pumps do not have check valve mechanisms. This structural feature makes gear pumps most suitable for metering and conveying high-viscosity fluids, overcoming issues in reciprocating pumps like piston or diaphragm types, where check valves can stick or fail to close properly at high viscosities, leading to reduced pump efficiency, inaccurate metering, or even failure to operate.
